Program Description
The Mom & Tot Program is designed to enhance the total development of a toddler from the time they begin to walk until their 27th month of life. We encourage parents to allow their toddler to crawl as long as possible. The crawling process is a vital contribution to the development of the area in the brain that we use for problem solving. Therefore, we advocate to parents that they encourage crawling and allow the walking to develop at the child's pace. A child will begin the walking process when they are ready. When they begin to pull-up to furniture and walk around (assisted or unassisted) on a consistent basis, they are ready for the Mom & Tot Program.
The GDC Mom & Tot Program provides a safe environment for children to experience levels, direction change and different spaces. Ms. Mary trains the parents how to "coach" their toddlers into safe practices in movement. Her job is to teach parents how to encourage independence at a very young age. Independence breeds confidence and self-worth in toddlers. The more work the brain does, the more it becomes capable of doing. Consequently, if a toddler is allowed to "figure things out on their own," that toddler will be able to accomplish more in relation to brain-growth within their first three years. This independence in movement also provides stimulation in other vital areas of development such as speech and coordination. Language is the means by which the brain develops its ability to act as the control center the thinking, learning and planning. This all begins within the active physical environment created in Mom & Tots. Parents learn to step back and not smother thier child's growth. They become more effective in their "coaching" skills and more confident as parents. At about the age of 27 months the child is moved into the Tumble Bunnies Program.
Program Schedule
The GDC Mom & Tot Program is a once a week class. Our Fall/Spring Session begins in late August and runs through May. We also have summer programs. Please call the office at (985) 876-5769 or email us at gdcyounglearners@gmail.com for enrollment options.
