What Makes GDC Programs Different?
Dear Parents,
Thank you for visiting our website. My name is Mary G Aucoin, Administrator of all GDC Programs. Our programs for children began in 1977 with gymnastics classes for school-age children. In 1980, we developed and implemented the "Tumble Bunnies" program for preschoolers. It was an immediate success and continues to affect the development of young children in the most positive ways. In the late 80's, we invested in our first school, "GDC Young Learners." Two years later, we started our second preschool, this one is called "Merry Oaks Preschool."
I am a professional educator and have been for 46 years. As an educator, the goals I set for all these programs are always goals that will guarantee each child the highest level of preparation. This preparation will enable success in school and, more importantly, in life. Our intent is to "educate" through many opportunities of practice. This practice helps each child develop a greater sense of confidence and self-esteem; a curiosity about learning; an understanding of the value of self-control and how it connects to one's ability to succeed. The environment for learning is one of positive reinforcement. Children learn how to communicate effectively with both their peers and their teachers. Our staffs, of both schools, have more experience working in the field of early childhood development than any other staff in this area. We know how to help children move forward at each level of their growth. We also know that "parents have to become partners" in this process of preparing children for the next level. Parents are "listened to" and "allowed to communicate their thoughts." We encourage them to come observe their child in action. We try to model to parents that staying involved in thier child's educational process is important to the child and the teachers who are teaching that child. Working together to accomplish the goals for each child helps the child and the parents. It also helps us as educators to continue to strive.
Our love for children is exemplified through our dedication and work. We pride ourselves in always being progressive in our methods and most creative in our curriculum. We attend annual workshops to improve our professioal preparation. The world recently woke up and realized how important early childhood is for our children; that children deserved more than just "childcare." I realized this over 25 years ago and thus the excellent programs of our schools were born. I encourage all interested to visit and see both of these unique schools in action.
Sincerely,
Mary G Aucoin
